Motörhead Beaten By AC/DC In The Wine World!

Motörhead may pack a bigger and heavier punch in the rock world, but in the world of wine, AC/DC have the upper hand when it comes to a cheeky Shiraz!

Sammy Hagar may have recently been heavily featured in the media promoting his Sammy's Beach Bar Rum however many of his classic rock contempories are currently marketing something a little bit more refined - their own brands of wine.

Motörhead, AC/DC, the Rolling Stones, Whitesnake, Ratt, Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, Warrant, Train, Santana and even The Police have all produced their own brands of wine aimed squarely at their fanbases.

Purely in the name of science, Billboard arranged a wine tasting panel at New York's City Winery to sample 12 of the current brands on offer.

The tasting panel consisted of Michael Dorf, the owner of City Winery, Robert Haynes-Peterson, a wine journalist; Matt Weiss, a professional sommelier and Bill Werde, who serves the editorial director of Billboard.

The panel particularly liked AC/DC’s ‘Back in BlackShiraz, apparently inspired by the band’s 'big bass sound' and also Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the MoonCabernet Sauvignon which stood out for its practicality and its drinkability.

The Wines tasted were:-

Motörhead - Shiraz
AC/DC - "Back In Black" Shiraz + "You Shook Me All Night Long" Moscato
Whitesnake - Zinfandel
The Police - "Synchronicity" Red Blend
The Rolling Stones - "Forty Licks" Merlot
Train - "Drops of Jupiter" Petite Sirah
Warrant - "Cherry Pie" Red Blend
Pink Floyd - "Dark Side Of The Moon" Cabernet Sauvignon
Ratt - "Body Talk" Chardonnay
Grateful Dead - "Steal Your Face" Red Blend
Santana - Brut Sparkling
