GWAR Cancel European Tour Due To Poor Ticket Sales!

GWAR

In a refreshinlgly honest statement released through their Facebook page, shock rock band GWAR have announced that their forthcoming European tour, which comprised 11 UK dates, has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales!

The statement reads, 'GWAR's 2011 European tour has been cancelled. Ticket sales were slow so promoters started pulling the plug on shows. Finally we had so many blow-outs that we had no choice but to cancel the whole thing. We can't afford to pay to play Europe, after all we aren't f*****g tourists! But we are extremely disappointed this happened and very sorry for our fans over there, especially in light of recent events. I know everybody over there wanted to say goodbye to Flattus in a way that a only a GWAR show could provide, and we were really looking forward to sharing that with you guys.

Hopefully all tickets will be refunded (plz let us know if they are not). Again we are really sorry this happened, but there was nothing we could do. Very, very bummed...but GWAR still lives, and will return to reap a bloody vengeance too terrible to comprehend.'

Not a great year so far for GWAR as guitarist Corey Smoot (stage name Flattus Maximus) died during the band's 'Return of the World Maggot Tour'. Smoot, who had played the character of Flattus Maximus for over ten years, was discovered dead on the band's tour bus on November 3rd of this year. He was 34 years old.

After Smoot's death, band lead vocalist Dave Brockie (stage name Oderus Ungerus) vowed to continue the European Tour and said, "Let’s make these shows a celebration of Cory Smoot, one of the most amazing players in metal. I am calling on the European GWAR family to get out there and drag everybody in sight to these gigs! We shall honor Flattus Maximus in the only way we know how - by rocking the f**k out!!!"

The band has however officially retired the character of Flattus Maximus, and will play any remaining commitments as a four-piece. Oderus Urungus had this to say about their missing lead guitarist-

"Flattus, without our permission I might add, has stolen our Skumship and returned to his beloved home planet, Planet Home. So once again we are marooned on your miserable planet!"
